FELT MAKER

 

Alex is a self-taught felt maker who creates beautiful hand dyed garments to wear and enjoy.

 

The appeal of felted wool inspired Alex to investigate the technique with a view to making items for herself, her family and friends. The pleasure of wet felting and her joy at the results drove her to explore further, to learn to hand dye and to create works of wearable art.

 

Alex favours Superfine Australian Merino Wool and quality silks. She also enjoys working with other fibres such as Alpaca and is fortunate to work directly with growers to produce quality unique work from their product.

 

Inspiration comes from many sources - the colour and mood of landscape, texture and form in nature, paintings and other artistic works - but most of all from the materials themselves. A love of fibre and its endless creative potential drives Alex to continue making felt.
